Philippine Ambassador and Permanent Delegate H.E. Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro presented her credentials today, 24 April, to UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.
During her meeting with the Director General, Ambassador Lazaro underlined the importance of UNESCO to the Philippines. She expressed the continuing commitment of the Philippines to work closely with UNESCO especially to promote sustainable development, education and culture. She also conveyed the appreciation of the Philippine government for UNESCO’s response to the disasters that struck the country late last year.
UNESCO is a specialized agency of the United Nations system whose primary objective is to contribute to peace and security through cooperation programs in the areas of education, culture, the sciences and communication and information.
