Paris, 20 October 2014 – The Department of Trade and Industry, through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), spearheaded the country’s participation at SIAL, the largest French food show, in Paris on 19-23 October 2014.

Under the banner “Taste by Design”, the Philippine pavilion occupied a 300-square meter space at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center and showcased Philippine tropical flavors and food products, such as mangoes, coconuts, organic rice, chocolate, artisanal spirits, Muscovado cane sugar, kapeng barako and even fresh tuna.

These foods took center stage during the cooking demonstrations carried out by an all-Filipino culinary crew flown in from Manila. At the middle of the Philippine pavilion, the culinary crew whipped up Philippine-French fusion dishes like surf n’ turf Alsatian tart, chicken inasal salad, calamansi madeleines and banana éclair with cacao de Davao. These dishes were accompanied by Philippine beverages like calamansi vodka grimlet and kapeng barako.

For five days, the Philippine exhibitors will be welcoming international buyers and guests in order to negotiate export sales. This year, there are fifteen participating companies: B-G Fruits and Nuts Manufacturing Corporation; Brandexports Philippines, Inc./Profood International Corporation; Century Pacific Food, Inc.; DLA Naturals, Inc.; Franklin Baker Company of the Philippines; GSL Premium Food Export Corporation; JUD Products Philippines, Inc.; M. Lhuillier Food Products, Inc.; Marigold Manufacturing Corporation (Mama Sita’s); Miesto International Foods Corporation; Philfresh Corporation; Philippine Grocers Food Exports, Inc.; Philippine International Trading Corporation; See’s International Food Manufacturing Corporation; and Universal Robina Corporation.

SIAL is the second largest food and beverage fair in the world after Anuga, which is held in Cologne, Germany. SIAL is held every two years, on even years, and alternates with Anuga, which is held on odd years.
