Ambassador Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro together with Senator Loren Legarda, PH representative to the Summit of Conscience for the Climate
20 July 2015, Paris, France. As a follow up to the State Visit of President François Hollande to the Philippines in February 2015, Senator Loren Legarda, representing the Philippines, has been invited by France as one of the speakers to participate in the Summit of Conscience for the Climate in preparation for the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21) to be hosted in Paris in December this year.
Senator Legarda joins over 40 religious, political and environmental leaders including former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco, Mohammad Yunus, and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, among others, in this Summit aimed at raising even more global awareness on climate change and ultimately urging world leaders to meaningful action and agreement during COP21.
Senator Legarda urged the international community to "have a personal reflection on what we can do to contribute to protecting the planet" and emphasized that "we are the custodians of the Earth and stewards of its natural resources thus, it is our responsibility to ensure that future generations will continue to live in a green, healthy and resilient world."
The Senator is scheduled to intervene as one of the panelists on Tuesday, 21 July, for the plenary session "Inspiring the World to Care -- igniting the will to act for the climate."
To highlight the importance of this Summit, His Excellency French President François Hollande invited all the guests to an official dinner at the Elysée Palace on Monday evening.
