20 November 2018 – UNESCO launches the 2019 Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report entitled Bridging Bridges not Walls: Migration, Displacement and Education.
The 2019 GEM Report presents implications of different types of migration and displacement on education systems, as well as the impact of reforming education curricula and approaches to training and teacher preparation. It features the Philippines as a global pioneer for its inclusive policies, especially for its activities and programs to equip Filipino migrants with skills, awareness and training. UNESCO also cites the Philippines’ progress in providing access to education for vulnerable groups, such as persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples and out-of-school youth.
The GEM is an annual publication which assesses progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education, as well as other related education targets in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
