MONTPELLIER—Ambassador Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro met with Dr. Patrick Caron, Vice President for International Relations and Céline Delacourt-Gollain, Director for International Relations of the University of Montpellier on 22 February 2019 to promote closer ties with Philippine higher educational institutions.

The University of Montpellier is in the Southeast France. It was established in 1289 and is one of the oldest University in the world. It’s prestigious College of Medicine is the world’s oldest medical school still in operation.

“I hope to deepen the implementation of the PH-FR MOU on Cooperation in Higher Education and Research by directly linking more Philippine and French universities,” said Ambassador Lazaro.

Director Delacourt-Gollain said that there is an increasing number of Filipino students studying masters and doctoral courses at the University of Montpellier. She also detailed some of the existing and future partnerships and programs with a number of Philippine universities.

Dr. Caron said the university is now part of a mainly state and EU-funded consortium of 19 grandes ecoles and international research institutions called Montpellier University of Excellence (MUSE). The university has 46,000 students, 7,000 of them are international students.

Ambassador Lazaro and the University of Montpellier officials agreed to explore ways to increase exchanges of students and visits of university officials from both sides. END
